Hanne Pålsson – Vevios

Hanne Pålsson - Vevios - The safety alarm for a safe everyday life #1

Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

I am an industrial designer and during my studies I also worked within the elderly care sector. Here I noticed that many elderly care and assistance products desperately needed to be redesigned in order to fit the next generation of elderly who has higher demands on functioning and safer everyday life. Due to personal experiences I chose to improve the safety alarm that has been used in the elderly care since the 1970’s.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

I have a Master in industrial design from the Faculty of Engineering. The safety alarm Vevios is my master thesis, which I currently am developing into a much more advanced safety alarm when it comes to technology and design. I also have an education in film production and visual illustrations. I'm excited about having the opportunity to develop the safety alarm further to a well-functioning care product that can be used as traditionally by elderly but also for new user groups.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

In cooperation with Join Business & Technology I will complete two prototypes of my new Vevios, safety alarm. These will be further tested and used as demonstration devices for marketing and founding. I will continue on my patent application together will LU Innovation and finally start to contact care product -and mobile companies for a future cooperation development of my safety alarm, Vevios.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

I except to achieve my goals during Leapfrogs and to be able to start a development of the Vevios safety alarm. To start a large scale marketing of the Vevios and build an interest and demand in the development of the Safety alarm, approaching both interested companies as well as different target groups.

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

Vevios first prototype is completed and tests have shown that its technology works excellent. Since the prototype is okay I was granted found from LU Innovation for Vevio’s patent application. Therefore, we just recently finished as sent the patent application. Now I can take contact with Home care and Technology companies for the final development process. Already I have been in contact with Attendo, which is one of the biggest private home care companies in Sweden. They are interested in the Vevios Safety alarm and we have decided to meet.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

The protoype for the Safety alarm Vevios is finished, but this phase took longer time than I first expected. Later on, everything went alright since my application for Vevio’s patent was granted and in August I will be able to go public in order to apply for more founding.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

As the patent application was finished this week, I am now waiting for the application to be reviewed, which will be in August. Meanwhile I am working on new presentations of Vevios safety alarm to gain founding. Fortunately, I have met a new mentor and he has inspired me to reach out for new user groups for my safety alarm. I am convinced that the new user groups, that I now have in mind, will improve my chances of getting more founding for my second prototype development for testing.
