Vigan Bytyqi - Animus Home #1

Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

I am one of the co-founders of the company Animus Home AB. We have developed a platform giving people better and smarter homes. The product is a gateway called Animus Heart and it collects all the smart home devices into one place. They are then handled from a user-friendly interface through the web or mobile app. Through the interface the user can directly control a single deviceschedule events and also use home apps.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

I am a positive guy with a creative mind. I was born in Albania, but have lived in Sweden my whole life. I have studied Mechanical Engineering for almost five years now and finishing my Master Thesis in product development this semester. I have worked on this product for almost two years now and before this I was a self-educated web developer working in my own Web Agency, Memoria.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

During these months I will mainly focus on the development of the user interfaces for the product. Not only the mobile app interfaces but also the web-interface and parts of the website designs. I will also be part of production planning for the first batch of the product, which is expected to be delivered in late autumn this year.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

I expect to finish most of the UI so that it is ready for our software developers to build on. Apart from the actual assignments I expect to become more confident in pitching and presenting my business idea.

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

I am completing the casing of our Animus Heart. This means, preparing the design for injection moulding. Apart from this, a lot of discussions have been made with our manufacturing partners to get the best possible cooperation structures for us in this stage.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

I have not managed to work on the user interfaces as I’ve planned and this was because I had to prioritize the production planning. Once we get everything rolling with the production of the first batch there will be more time for me to focus on other areas.

I have also been looking for a consultant to double-check my design for manufacture. I’ve had difficulties finding the kind of person I want, but through some other contacts I’ve reached to someone that might help me.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

I will have my full attention on fulfilling the production in time. This means some changes in the plan might occur since this field is completely new to me and it’s difficult to estimate time cost for the different tasks. Furthermore, I will prepare most of the UI designs so that our programmers have enough to work on until delivery date.

How did you experience the three months?

They inspired and helped me to continue the work in the company in a professional way. Most helpful I found the tools that were introduced to us during these three months, especially the pitching techniques.

What has been hardest/most enjoyable?

Preparing the pitches has been the hardest thing during the Leapfrogs 2016, but also the most useful. It didn’t only help me become a better pitcher but it also helped (forced) me to understand my own product in a better way. Hearing Hampus’ talk was very inspiring and more of that kind is always appreciated!

Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?

The project has been moving in a good pace the whole time. It will definitely continue and it has become so much fun to work with this product. We are entering phases new to everyone in the team and soon delivering our first products. So excited!

What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?

Solve one problem at a time. Our product is so comprehensive that it is so easy to get lost in all the things. That’s why it’s important to make a very rough long-term plan but a detailed short-term plan. It helps you stay present in the nearest tasks.
