Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

The idea was gifted to us by the hotel industry. One of co-founders has a great deal history and connections in that world so he pointed out the outcry of hotels paying high commission fees to OTAs. Together with the other co-founder’s strengths in web development they both embarked upon a new venture to help hotels increase their direct booking.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

I started an academic path that in the end lead me to a Master’s in Astrophysics. The continuation of this path was quickly discontinued when the passion for programming and business development surfaced. Today I have trouble finding enough hours in the day to finish all the passionate work. It has been the best switch I’ve ever made.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

During the summer Bookboost has an office space in Venture Lab where our team punches out code, sales, innovation, strategy, good days, bad days =(, camaraderie and of course… direct bookings! My main role in the company is develop our software but also “everything else”. At the moment, my >60h/week will be divided into making sure our products are stable, user friendly, leading and inspiring the development team and bringing in customers by helping with sales.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

I wish to prove that we create value by gaining more clients! What do we want? Clients! When do we want them? Now!

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

We have signed a new hotel group and gathered new leads. Meanwhile, we have worked on integrating new features to the product and restructuring the code base so it can be more easily maintained in the future. There have been some new challenges that have lead us to rethink some of the strategy. This has turned out to be very fruitful as it has lead to new ideas.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

Challenges are always there to be tackled. One of the thing we realized is that we were going to our clients and pitching them from the wrong angle. Parts of the software package we sell is extremely useful to hotels but also quite a switch to their daily work routine. By working extra hard and by putting ourselves in their seat by using our software in their name, we have gathered a lot to realizations that have lead us to reconsider the way we deliver our pitch and software.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

Our original plan is still what we are going for but it has gotten a new take on it. We will present ourselves and deliver our software in a manner that is now more in line with hotels’ expectations. We have also embraced the leaner approach and that will become even leaner. Shorter product delivery cycles and more testing will be implemented. All to stay awake in this increasingly competitive market space!
