Hanna Nyqvist - PCOS Foods  #1

Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

Hey! My name is Hanna and I’m the founder of PCOS Foods. PCOS Foods provides nutritional solutions for women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) through cookbooks, meal plans and a nutritional tracker – we believe in sustainable and holistic solutions. One of the biggest challenges for women with PCOS is weight management, and since upwards of 10% of women have PCOS, we believe this is an important challenge to tackle.  I, myself, have PCOS, and the lack of resources regarding the issue here in Sweden is what ultimately lead me to create PCOS Foods.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

I am a recent graduate from the Masters in Innovation at the Lund University School of Economics and Management. My experiences have been in marketing and business development, however, my future aspirations are to focus more on the branding aspect of marketing. With PCOS Foods, I am able to use my expertise in these fields and my passion for creating, to establish an e-commerce business that is founded on good values.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

I am lucky to be working with 4 great interns this summer who believe in the problems PCOS Foods hopes to solve. Our overall goals include establishing and expanding our social media presence; planning an upcoming awareness and marketing campaign for September; and producing our first prototype for the Swedish market. As any start-up, looking for funding and establishing partnerships are on-going tasks.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

We expect to surpass the “idea” phase of business creation and move onto the product development phase, looking toward a launch date. This product development phase will be on-going however, since our vision is to provide a variety of products to the Swedish market, with later plans for expansion in the greater European market. This summer with Leapfrogs will allow us to determine what the real potential for PCOS Foods is!

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

During the first month, the team has been working hard to create an online presence. We launched our website at the end of June and have since been working hard at inbound marketing through the site and social media platforms. Research and product development has also begun. We have begun collaborations with other companies which we will continue to do for the rest of the year to gain exposure.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

Everything has so far gone according to plan and even faster than we first predicted. We predict however, that the following stage will be slower than what we would have hoped – namely due to the product development process.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

In the next few months, we will be working hard to finish 3 different cookbooks. After this is completed, we will begin working on various meal plans. Throughout different stages of completion we will also begin physical and digital sales.
