Henning Gillberg - Repamera AB #1

Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

My name is Henning and I’m from Småland. I study “Product Design” at Malmö Högskola. We had an assignment about “Design and Repair” and I failed, so I had to re-do it. I did a market research about broken clothes and 517 people responded. 80% has torned garment at home that they want to use again. They day after I made the research I got my first customers.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

Grew up as a farmer who talked to much in school. Studied to become an electrician in high school but changed lane after graduation. I started to sell insurances 2011 at Trygg Hansa (insurance company) in Växjö and found out that I was really good at doing that, so I continued. I moved down to Skåne 2014 to study Philosophy and now I’m studying Product Design bachelor with one year left.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

I’m going to participate in Malmö Högskolas “Drivhuset Accelerator” until the end of July. We are 10 participators that will help each other grow our companies from Monday-Friday. The web developers that I collaborate with are building version 2.0 of our website and it will be tested and released during August. I’ll continue to pickup and deliver clothes during evenings and weekends.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

During this summer I want to set goals for the rest of the year and plan how reach these goals. I’ll debrief what has happened this spring and what I’ve learned from my first 150 paying customers.  Also, I’m going to build and design the entire service so that the internal and external processers are synchronized which will create a clear trademark. Repamera will be ready to create more volume this autumn.

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

I’ve tested a new logistic solution with good results. This has developed my business into a mail order company which makes Repamera a lot more scalable. We’ve done a big market research with over 650 participants, where 70% said that that they could see themselves repair clothes through mail order. I’ve also found a solution for the website that we’re building which lowered our cost with 20000 SEK!

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

I’m positive to the change of plans and I’ve reached more goals than I planned. Repamera has a lean logistic solution that is ready to hit the market whenever the new website is done, which will be in august. It’s harder than I thought to convince local servicepoints to help us hand out our packages. Also, some interesting discussions with hungrig.se made me look at the logistics with a smile on my face. Thanks for the idea, Åsa at Hungrig.se

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

The focus will be on create deals with tailors that can handle bigger volumes. This will lead to meetings in Gothenburg and some long phone calls. I’ll also focus on getting more customers through mail order and test that function even more. I’ll also continue my hunt for great team members for the Repamera Family. There are a few service spots left to convince in Malmö, so there’s a lot to do!

How did you experience the three months?

I’ve found my own pace of working and developed my self-discipline, which has accelerated the business. Leapfrogs is the perfect tool to take away the worst “risk” of starting your own business. Now I’m ready to launch the new website (with a lot of confidence).

What has been hardest/most enjoyable?

The hardest part has been to convince the programmers about a new solution, which made us save a lot of money. Thanks to this, we have more control over the new website and can design more by ourselves. This new solution also made us save some money, good hey?

The most enjoyable part often goes hand in hand with the hardest, so when the programmers and me closed a new, better deal for everyone.

Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?

It actually goes better than expected. When I started “aktiebolag” in January, I planned to give it 6 months to see if the business either started to swim or sink. We now have a stable economy and we’re proud to present version 2.0 of our website, to accelerate this project into the future.

What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?

I can learn everything that needs to be fixed. All problems has a solution, it’s only up to me to find those solutions.

Do you have any tips to other ”new” entrepreneurs?

Start out by finding ONE customer, and help that customer only. That will lead you in the right direction. Don’t spend money on logotypes, websites, apps or unnecessary stuff like that.
