Johanna Wellenstam - jämförjurist

Johanna Wellenstam - jämförjurist #1

Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?

I have realized that consumers are in need of assistance when navigating among legal services. Jämförjurist is a website where the consumer easily can navigate between different legal services, and is therefor the ultimate solution to this need. I got the idea of jämförjurist due to my genuine interest in law combined with my part time job at a law firm in Lund.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

My name is Johanna Wellenstam, I am 24 years old and have currently finished my 8th semester of law studies at Lund University. As mentioned I am also working part time at a law firm. My interest in entrepreneurship was raised during high school when I started a UF-company along with 4 classmates.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

My main plan during these months is to develop the website. Initially this will include research of the law industry, with a focus on standard-form contracts. Further I need to get in contact with law firms to get them to cooperate. I believe cooperation between law firms and jämförjurist would be the ultimate solution. When the website is up and running I need to initiate marketing activates to launch jämförjurist.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

During these months I expect to get the website running, and hopefully have an agreement for cooperation with several law firms.

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.

So far I have started building the website for Jämförjurist. Building the website has included various tasks. For example designing the user interface, choosing content as well as choosing how information should be displayed. Aside from building the website I have collected price information from various law firms to display on the website. I have also conducted a smaller marketing survey in order to understand what kind of legal service people need more information about.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

When I begun the work with Jämförjurist I knew that law firms are usually very restrictive with giving out price information. Even though most of them have a standard set price on several services, they want to meet clients before they officially set a price.  So the biggest obstacle for me is to get the law firms to give out the price information.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

During the remaining time I will continue focusing on building the website. Since it is my first time doing so it is a bit more time consuming than I had imagined. Therefore this is where my main focus will be.  I will also, as planned, continue contacting law firms to collect price information as well as building business relationships for the future. I have chosen a lean startup approach to my project and consequently aim to create a first MVP as early as possible.

How did you experience the three months?

I have found the past three months both challenging and educational. I have come to realise that being an entrepreneur is very time consuming, especially if you are in a start up phase and trying to do everything yourself. Since there is always more you can do, it is difficult to reach satisfaction. During these months I have gotten a better insight in the law sector, which for me as a law student has been a great experience.

What has been hardest/most enjoyable?

One of the biggest parts of my project has been to get in contact with law firms to get price information for their services. Getting this information has been a necessity in order to get the website going. But since the project has run during the summer, it has been difficult to get in contact with law firms due to holidays.

The best part has been to get positive feedback on the project from the firms that I have got in contact with.

Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?

Some parts went as expected, others not quite. I did not expect it to be that difficult to get in contact with law firms during the summer. But on the other hand I did get a lot of positive feedback from the firms that responded. Since I study full time and will work part time during the fall, I will not be able to work with the project to the same extent as during the summer. But I will continue building the website on my free time.

What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?

I have learnt that being an entrepreneur and trying to make reality of an idea can be very time consuming, but also a lot of fun! The most important lesson learnt is to ask for help when you need it. In order to be more efficient, it is a good idea to outsource the parts that someone else could do faster.

Do you have any tips to other ”new” entrepreneurs?

Outsource the parts that you are less good at. No one is good at everything. Get a partner, who can complement you; it will make the process more efficient and enjoyable.
