Daniil Dumitrescu - Greener Safety #1

Describe the idea:

Greener Safety is intended to replace the current medicine packaging. The medicine packages today usually consists of packaging with three or more blister packs and unnecessarily large gap between the tablets. This results in the use of unnecessary material, which is energy-consuming and consuming our fossils resources. In addition, aluminium and plastic are incorporated which makes the product difficult to recycle. My product is developed using less amount- and more environmentally friendly materials.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

My name is Daniil and I am a trained sound engineer and music producer who currently is studying Product design at Malmö University.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

I will do alot of research to understand the properties of different bio plastics and the potentiality that comes along with these natural plastics. I will also focus on designing a innovative medicine package that benefits the customer in different ways.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs? 

A greater understanding for the life of an entrepreneur and getting the knowledge i need to realise the concept.

Tell us what you have done on your projects so far during the Leapfrogs time:

I’ve done research of materials to find out which bio-plastic that could be used for a medicine package. Its important that the material can handle the drugs without any harm on them, the material have to be approved by “läkemedelsverket”. Beside the research of materials i’ve tried to develop the product to be as user-friendly as possible with prototypes. I’ve also found investors that are interested in helping with the economic part for further development of my project.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected? 

Since the material has to be approved i had to get in contact with different companies and people, it’s sometimes harder than i expected and i’m still waiting on replies. Another thing that was harder than i expected was to figure out how to get in touch with a specific person to answer my questions.  Most of this project is going well, I find my subject interesting and in time and it helps me to get things done. I’ve got some good answers and help during the way. And because of all this im also learning a lot of entrepreneurship.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

The remaining time i’m going to contact the bioplastic manufacturers and find out what it cost to produce blister packages to the lowest price and continue with sketching and prototyping. I Also need to get more contacts to get the knowledge i need to make the transition from a prototype to a selling product. Additionally i will be working on the valuable proposition to convince potential consumers that my product is a better choice.

How did you experience the three months?

I learned so much these three months about entrepreneurship and the medicine industry. I also learned a lot about my strengths and weaknesses i didn't knew about.

What has been hardest/most enjoyable?

One of the the hardest moment was to get in contact and get replies from the persons that had the knowledge and information about medicine package regulations i was in need of. The most enjoyable aspect have been the freedom to work with the project in my own pace.

Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?

I did not come as far as I had hoped to with my project, probably cause the summer is the hardest time to do the background research i needed to do to make some progress with my medicine package. Many of the people i was dependent on were on vacations and delayed the progress. Certainly, because environmental issues are more current right now then it's ever been and we need to improve our environment right away before it's to late.

What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?

That everything around your project takes longer time than you think and you need to have strong discipline to carry on your entrepreneurship.

Do you have any tips to other ”new” entrepreneurs?

To always listen closely to more experienced entrepreneurs and take notes and learn from their mistakes but also their achievements. My second tips is to always believe in your idea and try not to get affected by negative people around you that don't believe in your idea as much as yourself.
