Ebba Schollin - Reat Foods

Ebba Schollin - Reat Foods #1

Describe the idea:

Reat Foods will deliver real, unprocessed, unrefined foods in the most convenient format possible: frozen. We will offer a convenient solution, mixing frozen greens, fruits and vitamins into pucks. These pucks are meant to be blended with a preferable liquid. This could be either warm or hot, a lot or a little, dependable on if you want to make a smoothie, soup or maybe an healthy ice cream? At the same time, consumers could contribute to a reduction of all waste when it comes to greens and fruits. One third of all that is grown and harvest are being thrown away due different problems with the supply chain. Reat Foods want to exploit this and turn it into ingredients of our nutritious pucks.

Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.

I’ve just graduated from my Bachelor in Business Administration at LUSEM, with a specialization in entrepreneurship and innovation management. I am originally from Skåne but love to travel and experience new places and cultures. I’ve been working in the french alps, studying in Montreal, Canada and travelled around the world to mention a few. The best thing with travelling is experiencing all kind of different food, though food is a big passion of mine.

What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?

During the summer I will focus on a few things. First of all I want to get in touch with different fruit suppliers around Helsingborg. I will also meet a food chemist to get a better understanding of how to develop a great recipe. Moreover I will try to team up with at co-partner though I strongly believe in the power of team and collaboration.

What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?

I want to get a kick start for my future business and get enough time to experiment and research for the best possible starting point. I also aim to network and get to know like minded people. I want to achieve some great knowledge in pitching and other entrepreneurial skills. Get the courage to venture myself to run a business and don’t be afraid to fail. Furthermore I hope that I get to meat inspiring people increasing my social network and entrepreneurial mind. For the sake of our project I hope that we will accomplish a great outcome of our boost camp, making a difference for all the participants.

Tell us what you have done on your projects so far during the Leapfrogs time:

My main goals during the summer are to meet potential partners, research the market and try different recipes. This includes increasing the knowledge in food chemistry. Therefore I have spent the time so far, meeting people within the industry and with relevant knowledge according to this. I have also spent a lot of time researching in food nutrition.

Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?

So far everything works out according to the plan. Even though the toughest challenge has been to understand what focus the product will have. Either health or environment as the main niche.. Also to figure out how the supply chain needs to be created.

What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?

My remaining focus will be more practical, trying out recipes and applying the research so far. I will also keep looking for a person to team up with.

How did you experience the three months?

I had the opportunity to really explore in an area where I had very little expertise. It was a fantastic way of enabling time to research and gather as much information as possible about the food industry. This was crucial for my project in order to create a market analysis and action plan.

What has been hardest/most enjoyable?

Most enjoyable has been learning so many great things about my self and my project/market. Also I was lucky enough to find a partner with the right experience and expertise. This will absolutely qualify as the most important happening during these three months.

Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?

Yes! I reached the goals I was planning for. The project is now consisting of two people which means that we are a little team now. Our team will keep develop and discuss and also prepare for a market launch in the future.

What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?

Be open minded! Thing may not (or never) end up the way you thought at first. Most of the time it will actually turn out better than you first thought.

Do you have any tips to other ”new” entrepreneurs?

Be brave. What is the worst case scenario? Better to regret something you did than something you didn’t dared to do.
