Erik Alstersjö - Digital Camping
Describe yourself and your project. How did you get the idea?
My name is Erik and I study Information and Communication Technology at LTH. During my childhood I spent a lot of my summers in a caravan travelling around Sweden.
I have for a long time asked myself why there are no good way to get information about nearby camp sites in Sweden. So I decided that I will create an application for android devices that can do exactly that.
Who are you? Previous education/jobs/ experiences etc.
I am a 23 year old guy from Gothenburg, and I study Information and Communication Technology at LTH. My previous work experiences are mostly from a campsite outside Gothenburg and also from making cars at Volvo. I have also worked with corporate relations at both the guild for computer science and for the student union at LTH.
What will you do during these three months? How will you spend the time?
During these three months I will hopefully create and test a fully usable android application. At a start there will be a lot of setup to do. Some specification to write down, some experienced people to establish contact with and so on. Later I will create the application and test it on suitable persons.
What do you expect to achieve during Leapfrogs?
My ultimate goal during Leapfrogs are to have a fully usable android application that are ready to be sold at Google Play.

Tell us what you have done on your project so far during the Leapfrogs time.
I have created a first version of my app. The app is able to search for campsites with the specifications the user put in. These specifications are then calculated and put through an algorithm to present all campsites with such specifications. However up to date there is only a dummy database in the system. Apart from that I have also made a specification for the project and done some initial testing.
Has everything gone according to the plan? Has anything unexpected occurred? Has something been easier/harder than expected?
I have recently had some problems with Android Studios, after a program update my whole code crashed and needed many hours to be restored. Apart from that I think my work has gone according to plan. Sometimes it feels a lot harder than other times. But that is the fun thing about a project like this. It has its ups and downs. Hopefully there will be more ups than downs in the future.
What will you focus on during the remaining time? Will you follow your original plan or has anything changed along the way?
During the remaining time I will hopefully follow my original plan and continue to create this app. My goal is to end up with a fully functional app in the end of august. The next step will be to create the map based part of the app and from there include the GPS based search moment that is the base of this project. From there it will be easier to continue and create the final app.

How did you experience the three months?
These three months have been amazing for my project. I have been able to create a application from start and are really satisfied with how it has gone so far. Through Leapfrogs I have been able to put all my time in to this and really use my knowledge to fulfil my dream with this project. It have been really great to be able to do my project at the place that works best for me.
What has been hardest/most enjoyable?
The hardest thing with my project has been to put my programming skills in work to create an android application. This has been the biggest problem since I had to extend my knowledge to really create the application I want to.
The most enjoyable thing is that I have created an application myself. It is really satisfying to have something fully functional that I have created myself
Did it go as expected? Will you continue working on your project in the future?
Some things have gone exactly as I planned it to. I have come to the point in the project that I hoped to have done. However it has not been as smooth as I had hoped. Through these months I have met some big problems that I had to solve, other parts have gone more smooth. My plan is to continue to work with my project in the future. There are possibilities to improve and to create an application for iPhone.
What would you say is the most important lesson learnt while working on your project?
The most important lesson I have learnt while working on this project is that a project is never smooth and the toughest part is always the part you learn most from. I have also learnt that I am able to solve almost all of the problems myself. This will help me in the future both privately and professionally and that is really important to know.
Do you have any tips to other ”new” entrepreneurs?
The first tip to others are that you are always able to do the project you want if you really try to do it. I think it is also very important that you try to not work to much during these three months, try to keep it to circa eight hours a day or forty hours a week. This will make it easier to focus on your project through the whole project time and that is the most efficient and satisfying for you.
